Pioneer of Editing- Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorses was born in Little Italy, New York in 1942. He began making filns in the 1960s and has since produced some of the most famous films in cinema history. He was inspired by his film professor Haig P Managian back when he was studying in University.
His line of work addresses themes such as the Italian American culture, Roman Catholic Concepts of guilt and redemption etc. Growing up in Little Italy New York he was exposed to alot of gang crimes, drugs, violence etc which is reflected throughout his films.

He is well none for his harsh, often violent depictions of American culture. He produced/ directed famous films such as the iconic "Taxi Driver" to Academy Award Winner "The Departed" and so on forth.

Techniques
He begins his films with segments taken from the middle or the end of the story. He frequently uses slow motion photograph to create an experince clen cut from the audience. He used pur cinema in his films in order to bring the audience closer to what is happening in thse story. For example, In Ragging bull, Cascino and Goodfellas, Scorsese used pure cinema through photographs, Jump cuts etc to put the audince in the mindset of the characters at hand.  He also uses MOS sequence sets to particular music or voiuce over, ofthen involving aggressive camera movements and/or rapid editing technigues.  He uses these techniques not to show off how good of a genius director he is, but for the audience to emphasize with characters they usually wouldn't dare have sympathy for.

Martin Scorsese brought a new way of directing to life, much like Speilberg, he was so much different, he went against the original directing skills, instead he came up with other ways of directing. He revolutionized film directing giving it an inspiration for all. Because of this he was able to rise throught the ranks very quickly.

I have chosen to analyze Goodfellas. In "Goodfellas" Pure Cinema is used to show the mobsters mind at work. This happens say about 3/4th of the way throughout the film. James Conway ( played by Robert De Niro) Is a heartless mobster who is being hassled by Morris Kessler, the man who planned the recent robbery at the airport for Conway. As Kessler is ready to leave the bar the camera cut to a mid shot of Conway at the counter, just then the song "sunshime of your love" began to play off camera. We then watch the shot reverse shot  pushes in as Conway's eyes looks from Kessler to his glass, to the man sitting beside him and then right back to Kessler. Conway cracked a smile then it disappeared as he was about to take a puff of his cigarette. From his eyes associated with the camera's close up illustrates that he his lost in his thoughts. In just one shot the audience could tell that he has no intention in paying Kessler, instead he will kill Kessler and take the money for himself.
