My role in the Film Noir was quite fascinating, yet challenging. I played one of the main character (karren) Karren is the Femme Fatale, who befriended her husband's lover in order to poison her, but all was not according to plan when her husband turned up and drank the poison instead. I found it very difficult to get into the mindset of the character in which i was playing when we first started filming, in fact it took me uptil nearly the end of the dead line to actually grasped unto my role. This and adding to the fact that most of the pre production planning for the Film Noir was unfinshed and the script had to be changed quite oftenly because it was not up to the standard of a Film Noir.
The whole purpose of Pre- Production is preparing all the elements involved in making the Film Noir or anything film, series etc for that matter. It is the planning stage of the shootings, breaking down the swcript into small chunks so that the actors, producers etc knows what they are meant to do. Having not done most of the Pre- Production it was very difficult to shoot the film noir because on the day of filming the actors/ actresses had to be practicing the script, while the director thought of how to shoot the scenes, what camera angles to use and so on forth. This would not have been a problem if the storyboard were done or the shotlist and so on forth. One could argue that we were too exciting about filming the scenes that we forgot to prepare all the vital things needed to make the Film Noir.
Because Film Noirs are in black and white. The lighting is the key to it all because you want to be able to see the characters and make shadows etc. Memicking natural sunlight is a hard task, and this is what we had to do for the table scene. The lighting technician found it very difficult to set up the lights in the right positions ensuring that it is not too bright or dull on camera; the actors weren't to bright or dull, there weren't no reflections etc. The lighting technician and the camera operator had to work side by side to make the Film Noir look and sound professional.
My team mates and my Lecturer were very helpful because they helped me get into the mindset of my character seen as it was difficult, not that i didn't know what to do. I felt burdened because of the ending of the script. I felt it all rested on my shoulders like if i messed it up then we'd fail the task. Although there were downfalls in making the Film Noir we managed to create a very humorous and creative piece if work. Everyone understood exactly what was happening in the scence. They were able to read between the lines and predict the aftermath.
Overall, I had fun doing this project because i was able to show off my creative side on camera and I really enjoyed making the Film Noir. In future, the Pre- production will be the number one priority because it is very important to plan in order for a film to come out to the standard of both the Director and the Producer
