TST Evaluation


 



TST which stands for The Student Takeover is a magazine show that the class as a group created using Live recording and pre-recorded items. The main process for making a magazine show is pre-production. This is the most important stage because the Producer, PA, Director, Presenters and script writers are aware of what they are meant to do when filming the actually show.

The task was to work as a group and creates a magazine show that accumulates for 30 minutes including all the pre-recorded inserts. First and foremost we had to elect a Producer who we thought would be reliable and calm. The producer then handed out roles to the other members of the group, and together we all voted on a suitable programme title for the magazine show. After all the cast and crew were hired out, we then started the Pre-production planning. So a team of script writers, including the presenters, producer, director and all the heads work together on a script, a running order and other vital paperwork for the show. The producer then had to prepare a call sheet for everyone.

The pre-production is the most important aspect of creating a show, without it there would be no show or it would have ended up a big destruction. This is where my role played a big part. My role for TST was Set Design. I was in charge of building and decorating the set in the studio. I had to draw up a sketch of how the studio will look like for camera, and then passed it on to the producer to oversee my final creation. As a part of my role I was responsible for finding out all the props, properties and material needed to construct the set. Also I had to take into mind the health and safety regarding all the cast and crew members. To accomplish this, I made sure that all the props and furniture do not interfere with the movement of the cast and crew members.

Overall I think I did my role exceedingly because I was organized, determined and I did not go beyond what my job description was or my role for that matter. Also the fact that I came up with a design for the set illustrates that I suited my role quite brilliantly. The only downside to my role was that I did not take full control at all times. I would sit back while others change the concept I had without putting up a fight. For example, the stage for the Music performance. I had an original design for it which was overseen by the producer and near to when the Music act was about to perform, one of my team member decided to exceed their role and changed the staging and I just stood there and did/said nothing. So taking more control and not allowing others to take over my role is definitely something I would need to work on, if say I should ever be Set Designer again.

TST

TST is a magazine show aimed at the students in Full time Education at CWC. The content of the show was mainly to inform, educate and entertain our target audience. To do so the show included information about University and whether or not it's essential, News reviews, Film reviews etc. It had humour and a comedy like style.

As the show was being made during Halloween season, we decided a Halloween theme would be suitable for the show. Personally I think the show meet its aim in term of its target audience and its contents because it included all the aspects it was aiming for.

The process of making the magazine show had its ups and downs, but in the end we all came together and got it done. We were all certainly organized and determined, seen as we made all the necessary preparation needed for the show to run. The scripts were made, the set was designed, and the inserts were made and so on forth.

The only downside to the show and the process of making it was that individuals were exceeding their roles. Most individuals were taking over the role of the producer even though they were assigned their own roles. Individuals were not taking full control over their roles. They were allowing others to change their idea. Also the lateness of majority of the production team was appalling because people had to be waiting for individuals to get here before anything could start, as most of the late comers were assigned important roles. All this caused heated arguments a couple of times because individuals were frustrated and felt left out at times and also because a few individuals take constructive critism very personally. To be honest working as a group was a complete disaster because they are certain individuals that you just cannot have a civil conversation with.

The most vital part of working together as a group is COMMUNICATION. And we did not have that at all. Most individuals were unsure about certain certain things that were happening because of the lack of communication between everyone.

Overall I think the show went terrible considering all the effort we put into the pre-production. Most of the pre-recorded items did not work. Presenters were unsure about which camera they were meant to look into and so on forth. If we were to get the opportunity to do it all over, as a group we would need to communicate with each other and keep everyone in the loop. Avoid conflicts and not taking everything personally. Turn up on time, so we can have more time preparing for the magazine show and not having individual taking over the roles of others. If we accomplish these things, we will certainly create a better magazine show.
