Legal and Ethical

What does ‘copyright,’ mean?

Copyright is a legal concept authorized by most government, giving the creator work exclusive rights. It is generally for” the right to copy2 but gives the copyright holder the right to credit for the work and decide who can adapt it or can even trades it too.

Give three examples of different things which you might include in your video and could be subject to copyright:
Music
Facebook pictures
Clip from YouTube

List two websites that give copyright free music:
YouTube
LimeWire

List a website where you can find free or low fee photographs:

Explain what a location release form and why is it needed for filming?
A location release form is a binding contrast between the film maker and the owner(s) of the private property within or where the film is shooting. By signing this form the property owner forgoes the right to sue for specific types of claims and gives the production team authorization to use their property in filming.

What is a contributor release form and why is it required?
A permit to company giving them authorization to use and show filming materials. Also ensuring them that the contribution should not contain materials that are subject to copy right issues. Without it you will not have the right to show your film to anyone or enter it into the fFlm Nation Competition

M.A.C Commercial Evaluation

For my group commercial we chose M.A.C ( Make-Up Artist Cosmetics). Firstly, I produced two mind maps which generated ideas for my commercial. I created a storyboard which outlined all my idea which visually shows how they will come together and work to make this Ad outstanding. My storyboard  includes the different camera shots, size and angle that will be used, sound effects/lighting, voice over, visual sketches and dialogues.

In my group we researched and created a power point presentation about our chosen product. we wrote about its history i.e when and who founded it, success, competitors, USP and so on forth. All these information we gathered were used as ideas for our new up to date commercial. We then presented it to the class and explained what our concept for the commercial is and took feedbacks to help make it even more interesting and creative. After which we started shooting the commercial.

we shot our commercial using all the different shooting techniques we learnt a while back. For example, the different camera angles and shots, i.e tracking, medium shots, long shots, close ups and so on. There were a lot of tracking, seen as our idea is that she applies the M.A.C Lipstick and her whole world started to change, colors flying every where as she walks down the street,  so the camera operator had to follow her every move. There were close ups on her lips to show of the actual product, the Lipstick. We shot it in three diferent locations, the side walk next to where she lives, a tunnel and buliding.

After filming we moved on to editing. Putting every shot in its right place, added pictures and sound tracks where needed. Added color effects using color correction, changed the speed. When editing our commercial a problem occurred, as our idea is for her whole world to be in color after applying the lipstick, also as she walks the colors will follow her every move, but we didn't have the techniques or the right equipment for it to happen. So had to use another approach, sometime lets stressful and hard to do, but creative enough to look professional.
Overall, I think we did a very good job, from coming up with the ideas and puttinh them into action. I feel very proud of myself and the group too.

1. A television advert is a short film promoting and persuading consumers to purchase a product. It also gives consumers reasons why to buy the product.

 2. KEY CHARACTERISTICS:
-Unique selling point(USP)
- Catchy song/ phrase
-Logos

3. The product that i find memorable is the spec savers advert. This advert involves an old dude walking into a kitchen thinking it is a steaming room, only to find he was siting in Gordon Ramsay's kitchen. At the end is the catchy phrase "should've gone to spec savers". The fact that the used celebrity personality to promote their ad means they will get  more attention from consumers because everyone knows the famous master chef Gordon and the catchy phrase they use reminds people to get their glasses/ contact lenses from spec savers, it also makes their product stands out from any other  optician ad.

4. HISTORY OF ADVERTISING
How many adverts is it estimated that the average American consumes every day?

An average American is exposed too 3000 ads every day.

Where do you see adverts?
Bus, television, billboards, booths, shelfs in stores and supermarket floors.

What is the second most uttered word in the world? The second most used word in the world is coca cola.

Sometimes advertisers use a character or a personality to help sell a product, why is this successful?
This is successful because humans can't really connect with the actual product but they can with the icon promoting it. it is a way to get to people subconscious/ unconscious to delight their eyeballs.

Does advertising always work? Give an example?
No, sometime the product misses the market. For example, the Edsol- great lemon looking car missed the market because consmers lost interest after watching the advert repeatedly. The more they saw the ad, the more they looked at the features and style of the vehicle, they decided they want nothing to do with this product.

Why is research an important phase of making a TV advert?
It gives the producers more creative ideas. How/ what to get te audience attention. It is what you hang on to to present your reasons to the person who is putting the money up. Find out information from focus groups audiences their creative idea and their opinion.

Research has show that some methods of advertising are effective, what are they?
Local business journals, Billboards, focus groups, finding out what makes the consumers ticks, getting their opinion, their attitude towards the product, what terns them on and off and their values.

How does advert stops us from turning over?
To make audience in this life time drawn to advert it has to be entertaining, capture their imagination more than inform them or tickling their collective funny bone.

What is the future of advertising?

Using the internet o show the ads as it provides a lot more information to consumers than merely watching it on the television.  Using the internet cookie to track what consumers like makes it more easier for them to create a product that will be effective. There is also another approach, Cybergold is literally paying people to engage in the ads. With money involved they are guaranteed to grab a lot of consumers interest.

Review Report

Throughout my project I have set targets to help me along the way. At the end of the day I have eventually met all my targets, though I was off track through most of the lessons because I kept losing my recorded footages.  To make my targets more clearly, I broken then down into manageable chunks called ‘Action Points’ and worked on from there. Once I have achieved one point I tick it off to keep on track with my project. I also tick off the kind of work that was required of me.
I have made and designed my own blog on blogger. Uploaded videos on it and analyzed them. I now know my way around the building and I have also viewed the support network. I have edited my blog by updating my profile with my personal information, added themes, color schemes and pictures to it as well. I learnt how to use video equipment, though I still found it confusing when I was completing my video profile. I participated in group discussion about existing video profiles, that which gave me an idea of how to make my own video profile interesting. Also, I planned my filming for next lesson.
I was able to produce my own script that was fit for purpose. I knew that because I read it out to my study partners and received feedback on whether it was interesting or whether it needed to be improved on.  I have completed both mind maps for video platforms and interactive videos. I finally finished filming footages for my video profile and used Log and Transfer to import them unto Final Cut pro in order to edit and render them.
I finally finished editing my video and exported it to YouTube, then unto my blog. I received feedback from my peers about my video, both positive and negative. I evaluated my video profile using the feedbacks I received and my own experience of creating the video.
I learnt that I have gained a great passion for editing videos. I found the whole experience interesting and exciting as well because I was able to put my creativeness into action. I loved the way all my lessons were organized. We organized ourselves by writing up our daily targets and broken them down into action points.
I also learnt that I am motivated by quality fun lesson. When I am doing something I enjoyable it makes me work harder. What frustrates me is when I can’t get something done because I am either distracted or I don’t know how to make it happen.
In future I will be more engaged in class discussion, be more outspoken. Sharing my thoughts with my fellow class mates and be on target at all time.

My Video Profile Evaluation

Reflecting upon the feedbacks I received from my peers, I can say my video was done particularly well.  My peers thought my video brought out my passion for both music and athletics, but I could have improved it by filling out the blanks and adding footages of me. Overall they really enjoyed it.

The overall assignment was interesting as well as exciting. I was able to put my creativity into action. The journey from learning how to use new software and techniques, such as Final cut pro, importing flies using Log and Transfer, how to drag the actual video footage and Edit and insert it overwhelmed me.

There were a few errors that occurred after I have inserted and edited my video. Most of the images did not follow the audio which was done separately, besides that everything went well. I am particularly fond of the part where I spoke about my passion for music, and how I am inspired by the Legendary Robert Nesta Marley (Bob Marley), especially the video of his interview where he spoke about Reggae music.

In future I will add in more images of me, or even an actual video of me speaking instead of putting in the audio separately. Get more involved in the video for my audience to see me, more than just hearing my voice.

To make my video look and sound more professional I could use special effect video recorder, use a professional tone of voice. I could also apply effects as well.  As with most things we’ve done in life there were parts that we were confident with and parts where we struggled. I found it really hard to keep on target because most of the equipment I used to film was my first time using them, so it took me time to get use to them. I got a lot of support from my teachers to make this video as interesting as it is. I can honestly say it took a long time to make.

Media Production: Script writing

Audio

Picture

Hi my name is Tashayna, I’m 17 and I’m currently studying BTEC Media Production at City of Westminster College in West London.

Montage shots of me, close up on eye, MCU etc

I’ve actually done fairly well in school. Got 5 GCSEs A-C.  I’ve never had a job, reason being that whenever I apply for a job it seemed as though they’ve just ignored my application.

Shots of me talking, close up on mouth…

My dream job is to be a producer or a director. In the future I’ll be working in the media industry, whether it be producing or directing films or shows because I like being creative and working behind the scenes.

Close up of my facial expression and body movement. Picture of me creating a script.
I’m an athlete; I do mostly track and field, and long jump. I gain my inspiration from professional athletes have seen on TV i.e. Usain Bolt , Veronica Cambell Brown, Jennifer Ennis, Carmelita Jeter etc. I love listening to music; reggae in general…Bob Marley, The Marley brothers, Alborosie, Etana etc. My interest of bob Marley is beyond me, it’s more of an obsession really because I listen to his music almost daily. I’m touched by how he promoted one love, peace and unity throughout his musical lyrics and his idea that music can cure racism, and stop the war.
Close ups of me in the gym warming up, shots of me listening to music (raggae) photos of my idols
Whatever I want to get done, I will put my all into it, to achieve my personal goal(s) I will not be defeated!!
Close up of my mouth and facial expression. High angle shot.

This is an amateur video illustrating how Japan was on 10/03/11 when a huge earthquake struck the North-East coast of the country that triggered a massive tsunami, leaving many homeless... It also demonstrates the devastation and confusion the Japanese went through on that frightening day.
This video was aimed at basically everyone who heard about the natural disaster who had no inside communication, especially news readers.
This video can be found on YouTube, Just type in the name above and check it out!!
This video was made to give an insight from those that were there on that very day when the disaster struck. There expression of what took place. Also, if anyone in the film industry decides to make a natural disaster movie based on Japan’s earthquake, there are resources for them to copy from.
All technical qualities of this video was done almost perfectly. It seems as though it was done professional, as the camera was angled correctlt, there are no blurs nor grains, no frequency problem. Only issues is that it makes you a little giddy headed because of the camera movement. Besides that, i find it almost ideal.

This is a hilariously funny video of a Granddad giggling on his Wii to Britney Spears track “Womanizer” Granddad shows of his dancing moves on camera.
Personally, I think there is no specific target audience, only those who enjoy watching funny stuff on YouTube.
This video can be found on YouTube. It’s really funny, so go check it out!!
The purpose of this video was to illustrate how even the elderly can show their moves on Wii, and how much fun it is to use the Wii.
For a homemade video the technical qualities were pretty good. There are no grains and no frequency problems...  The sounding is clear and it has a good dynamic range.

Test Your Awareness: Do The Test

This video is a TFL Cycling safety awareness test.  They’re two teams passing two balls among themselves. You are supposed to count the amount of passes the white team makes, but also check for the moon walking bear.
This video can be found on YouTube, just type in the name of the video and check it out!! The purpose of the advert was to raise awareness among vehicle drives of cyclist on the road, also to help them understand how the brain operates and how easily it is to miss something you’re not looking for.
The technical aspects of the video are in perfect condition.  The video was done in movie projectors to protect the moving images from interference. The imaging quality of the video is flawlessly done, as the sharpness of the image was not affected, there were no grains and there were no distortions. Personally, I think all qualities of this video were done as it should be.
This video is targeted at vehicle drivers to be aware of cyclist on the road, as it is easy to miss the obvious.

Interactive Video- 'Gorrilla drumming' Cadbury Ad for dairy milk

This  is a hilariously funny  Cadbury advert campaigne  for diary milk of a gorrilla drumming to Phil Collins' track ' In the air tonught'. The 90- second film is aimed at mainly young children, seeing as younger kids enjoy munching on chocolate, but is also aimed at adults as well. This video can be found on youtube, which is on the internet. The purpose of this video was to promote diary milk chocolate in a more child like manner to catch its target audience, it was also aimed for people to be constantly talking about it, seen as it got such tremendous ammount of views on youtube. The video was shot perfectly, you can see that it was done by a profeesional... as all the camera angles where marked correctly; there were no blurs when it was up closely as it was done in high definition and was good enough to been seen clearly on youtube. The sounding was also great as there were no frequency problem and it fits right in with the imaging.
