E- commissioning

BBC commissioning is a collaboration of channels and genre.  The Channels decide on the range and mix of programmes they want to show to their audiences, and the Genres look for the individual ideas within in order to meet those needs. To get the programme commissioned it has to work of both channel and genre.

All submission for TV or online content idea must be submitted online through the e-commissioning for the BBC network content. 

Before you submit your content make sure to create an account on the system, but before you complete your registration make sure you are eligible for the account.

Each offer sent to the BBC  commissioning team automatically and securely logged with a unique reference number for your record after submission. Face to face conversations will always enhance an idea, but we receive up to 10,000 proposals a year and time with Commissioners is limited, so meetings will always be based on the merit of the idea submitted.

BBC writersroom champions new writing talent in film, television, radio and theater.
Writers room promote writers all across the BBC departments, programmes, channnels etc. They work in partnership with theaters, writer's organizations, screen agencies, and the wider cultural industries. They also help writers to put their ideas through to the website and around the country with the UKs highest writing talents.


The script i chose to summarize is Holby City( Damage Control series 13 episode 33). Holby city is a medical drama, so therefore it is target at thos ewho enjoy watching drama series. There are many different characters including nurses, doctors and oatients etc. The script started out with a 37 year old guy named Sean in a car that lurches into parking lott in excrutinating pain, clutching himself will her searches the passenger seat for some items. he grabs his cell phone... mean while back in the hospital Dan is standing at the bed side of a Mr Carlton as he's been prepped for surgeruy by Crissie. Dan is humoring one of the patients showing off his many skills and techniques. To be honest this script is quite long buh is very visual as you can read and imagine what is happening.

Tension and Pace: When editing timing is very important especially when creating a sense of tension between characters. Speeding up the process making the shots shorter and more frequent give the audience the understanding that there is tension building up. The use of music can also adds to the tension.

Crosscutting is shot changes, cutting between two scenarios and from character to another showing their reaction so the fragment of each scene will be showed to the audience alternatively.

Reaction shots are typically close up or MCU shots showing the reaction towards the cut from a particular scene by the audience. It adds to the emotional glue between the different shots in a scene through the use of the cutaway edit.

Seamless Editing is where the audience do not realize the editing of the film because they are distracted by all the action on the screen.

Flash back is when the story starts of by going back into time showing the back story, then back to the present time explaining how they character (s) got to where they are now in the present time. Flashback adds more drama to the film and makes it more emotional.

 Editing can be used poetically when viewers are left puzzled and has to figure out for themselves what is the purpose of a certain shot, for example putting two unrealated scenes together without explain how they fit as one in order to make us join the dots.

Jump cut is a moment of discontinuity in an edit. It is used to make the audience feel what is happening in the scenes. It is not cutting from one scene to another, instead it 's just moving continuously from one to the other.

          HUSTLE
Overhead establishing shot is when the director sets the space where the action is taking place and the positioins of the characters. we then know they are in action because of how the shots are set up in the room.

Shot reverse shot is where one character is shown looking at another character (often off screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown looking in the opposite direction the audience can assumes they are in conversation with each other. It is a feature of the "classical" hollywood continuity editing at 180 degree  to retain the continuity by not confusing the audiece sense of location of the character in the shots.

Eye line matching is when one character is looking into the camera then off screen, and another looing into the screen and into the camera. when camera then cuts into other member in the group to show their face expression and their reaction, this is how the editor involve thenm into the scene.
The wipe technique is the action of different location and time, and choosing a diagonal angle to show the dis oriented building site . All these diffrent angles and action creates a mise- en- scene. Another editing technique is the quick cut, this creates a fast rhythm and saves time. it also keeps the story moving and the audience on their toes.

Introduction to Editing

      The Gloaming
Editing is the process of selecting and preparing written visual, audible, and film media used to show information through the process of correction, condensation. organization, and other modifications performed to create a much more appropriate piece of work.
Elliptical Editing allows us to fill in the gap between scenes by using different shots put together to condense time and moves the story on more quickly.
Long shots are used to show the geographical location of the character and shows the condition of the environment she is located in. It also tells us that she is alone
Non-diagectic sounds are notes of music playing underneath the nature. It is neither visible on screen or apart of the action. it creates a sense of fright as she wonders what happened to her boyfriend.
The scene where she behinds down to pick up the ring was made obvious to the viewers because this shot was cut through the shot where we saw her looking down to the ground. So when the camera moved to the ring on the ground we then realize it is what she was looking for. the director could have taking the easy route by taking a long shot of her bending over picking up the ring, but cutting the two images together is much more faster way to make the point.
